Rashid Center for Diabetes and Research is a unique center in many ways. It provides an interesting example of a cross boarder public-private-academia partnership being owned by the UAE Ministry of Health and managed by Global Health Partner in collaboration with the Swedish public Skane University Hospital and Lund University,
Global Health Partner, which is a Swedish healthcare organization, has extensive experience in developing and promoting specialized health care services all over the world. A medical advisory board from Skane University Hospital, one of the largest university hospitals in Sweden offering advanced medical care, training and prominent research, has been established to secure quality of treatment, research and professional education at RCDR.
More Details
RCDR’s multidisciplinary team offers most of the treatment modalities relevant for diabetes and its related complications under one roof. The center is divided into six different departments, each headed by a team leader: the Diabetes Clinic, the Lifestyle and Bariatric Surgery Clinic with an educational kitchen and a gymnasium, the Foot Clinic, the Ophthalmology Clinic, the Laboratory – ranked as number 1 in the UAE and number 5 out of 725 laboratories internationally (Bio-Rad, 2011), and the Administration. In addition, the center has a project based team called REQA – Research, Education, Quality and Awareness. The center works with one common IT system in a completely paperless environment. This enables both a holistic and integrated care approach as well as the possibility to extract treatment data for research and improvement projects.
